Canadian-born Nick Muzin currently operates at the intersection of politics, healthcare policy, and international relations through his Washington, D.C. firm, Stonington Global.
Born in Montreal, Muzin relocated with his family to Toronto at age five. His educational trajectory began with undergraduate studies, continuing to Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree on a full scholarship. He completed an internship in internal medicine and obtained his medical license before attending Yale Law School, graduating in 2005.
While at Yale, he paused his studies for a semester to work as legal counsel for the Republican National Committee during George W. Bush's 2004 re-election campaign. He later spent three years at Williams & Connolly, focusing on healthcare litigation where he represented doctors in malpractice cases, Georgetown Hospital, and pharmaceutical companies in products liability cases.
His political career gained momentum in 2008 when he served as medical advisor to John McCain's presidential campaign, managing the review and public presentation of McCain's health records. A move to Charleston, South Carolina marked a turning point when he met Tim Scott, then a city council member weighing a run for lieutenant governor.
Nick Muzin advised Scott to pursue a congressional seat instead, managing his campaign against established political figures including Paul Thurmond (son of Senator Strom Thurmond) and Carroll Campbell (son of a former governor). Following Scott's victory, Muzin moved to Washington D.C. to work as his chief of staff.
From 2013 to 2014, he directed coalitions for the House Republican Conference under Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, crafting outreach strategies for all 232 Republican members. Ted Cruz noticed this work and recruited Muzin in 2014 to serve as deputy chief of staff and senior advisor for his presidential campaign. During this period, Muzin raised over $100 million, helping position Cruz as a primary contender.
After Cruz's campaign ended in 2016, Muzin established Stonington Global, creating a distinctive business model within the lobbying industry. The firm operates on month-to-month retainers rather than standard long-term contracts, reflecting a results-focused approach. His client roster includes healthcare organizations, sovereign countries, political parties, and corporations needing assistance with urgent regulatory situations.
His professional activities frequently involve resolving complex scenarios where government components intersect with business interests. His work spans multiple continents, with projects across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, his practice has increasingly concentrated on domestic healthcare matters, including representation of hospitals, nursing homes, and pharmaceutical companies.
Though his career now centers primarily on consulting and lobbying, Nick Muzin maintains his medical credentials, regularly completing required continuing education. Earlier in his career, he practiced medicine part-time at clinics on a pro bono basis, though his professional attention now remains predominantly on his consulting practice at Stonington Global, where he continues to apply his multidisciplinary background to complex political and business problems.
